About this course

One of the critical features of behaviour analysis is engaging in philosophical doubt. Many of us were trained to question and analyse strategies from outside of the field of behaviour analysis. However, many commonly used strategies and procedures are passed on in the field that could benefit from interrogating and engaging in a higher level of philosophical doubt. In the second round of this 4 part series, Dr. Megan highlights 4 additional areas of folklore that she was trained in as a behaviour analyst and leads attendees through an interactive process to examine the strategies and identify best practices to improve effective outcomes for learners: Extinction (1 Ethics CE), Function vs Topography in Skill Acquisition (1 Supervision CE), Verbal Behavior and Language Development (1 Supervision CE), Toilet Training (1 Ethics CE). This course is suitable for Board Certified Behaviour Analysts (BCBAs), Qualified Behaviour Analysts (QBAs-QASP-S), UK Behaviour Analysts (UKBA, aUKBA) with at least 2 years experience, or those working under the supervision of a duly qualified supervisor or mentor (approved by the BACB, UK SBA or QABA Board).

Course objectives

After this course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain why it is crucial to engage in philosophical doubt throughout behaviour analytic practice

  • Describe the literature base and historical application of extinction procedures within behaviour analysis

  • Describe at least 1 ethical consideration relating to the use of extinction

  • Describe the current research on language development and how it relates to verbal behaviour

  • Describe the literature base on toilet training and considerations of social validity for commonly used toilet training procedures within the field of behaviour analysis

  • Describe at least 1 ethical consideration relating to rapid toilet training protocols

  • Train others on how to engage in the ABA Folklore Process
